Shazam App by Apple Can Identify Songs Even with Headphones On
Shazam is Apple’s platform that works like the Pixel’s now-play feature, helping you identify songs playing on your speaker or even a TV show. But now Shazam can help people identify songs when they’re connected to headphones. The feature is compatible when you’re using Bluetooth or wired headphones, meaning millions can take advantage of the new feature.
Shazam was acquired by Apple many years ago and has had limited functionality since then. Expanding its support in apps is a definite game changer. For example, Shazam can find music on apps like TikTok, Instagram, and even YouTube.
Shazam app update 17.3 brings a feature this week that basically says, “Open the app, check the headphones icon to make sure your headphones are connected, then start recognizing music around you or in apps like TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube.”
We tried out Shazam after the new update to see if the feature works as the company claims. We opened the music search app and then started playing a video on YouTube. Now go back to Shazam and you will see the app’s song discovery results.
The update doesn’t affect the ability to recognize songs from other apps, but the fact that you can be connected and still use the feature might be a bigger deal than you think. Interestingly, Shazam’s new feature works no matter what wired or wireless headphones you’re using, and isn’t limited to Apple’s AirPods, which is a good thing.
Shazam became an Apple product when it was acquired in December 2017, and since then we’ve seen Apple gradually integrate the platform into its ecosystem. It makes a lot of sense to make Shazam compatible with headphones, as most people rely on this mode when listening to music.
